KB (kilobyte) in the decimal standard equals 1000 bytes, while KiB (kibibyte) in the binary standard equals 1024 bytes. The IEC binary prefixes (KiB, MiB, GiB) were introduced to remove the ambiguity between base-10 and base-2 definitions.
In Decimal mode, 1 KB = 1000 bytes (as used by storage manufacturers and SI). In Binary mode, 1 KB = 1024 bytes (as traditionally used by operating systems). The binary prefixes KiB, MiB, etc. always use 1024.
In the decimal standard, 1 GB = 1000 MB. In the binary standard, 1 GB = 1024 MB. Use the toggle to switch between the two conventions.
The converter supports bit, byte, kilobyte (KB), megabyte (MB), gigabyte (GB), terabyte (TB), petabyte (PB), kibibyte (KiB), mebibyte (MiB), gibibyte (GiB), and tebibyte (TiB).
