Rotation options:

  • ·Rotate all pages clockwise 90° — The most common operation for scanned documents that display sideways.
  • ·Rotate all pages counter-clockwise 90° — For documents rotated the opposite direction.
  • ·Rotate all pages 180° — For upside-down documents.
  • ·Rotate individual pages — Click specific page thumbnails to rotate them independently. Useful for documents with mixed orientation.

Understanding the rotation direction:

  • ·Clockwise 90°: A portrait page tilted to the right becomes landscape (right edge becomes bottom)
  • ·Counter-clockwise 90°: A portrait page tilted to the left becomes landscape (left edge becomes bottom)
  • ·180°: Portrait page becomes upside-down portrait

Checking your result: After rotating, preview all pages before downloading. Rotate again if the direction was incorrect — two rotations in the same direction produce the same rotation as one in the opposite direction.

Format comparison

PDF rotation vs image rotation: Rotating an image file (JPG, PNG) modifies the pixel data or the EXIF orientation tag. Rotating a PDF updates the page rotation value in the PDF structure without touching the page content. PDF rotation is always lossless; image rotation may involve re-encoding.

Permanent vs viewer rotation: Many PDF readers have a "Rotate View" option that rotates the display for the current session without saving. This is not permanent — the next person who opens the file sees the original orientation. This tool saves the rotation permanently into the PDF file.

Rotation vs re-creation: Some poor PDF tools "fix" orientation by exporting each page as an image, rotating the image, and rebuilding the PDF. This loses text layers and searchability. This tool updates the rotation flag only — no re-encoding, no quality loss, text preserved.

How it works

1

Upload

Drop your PDF. All pages display as thumbnails in their current orientation.

2

Select pages

Click 'Select All' or click individual page thumbnails to choose which pages to rotate.

3

Rotate

Choose the rotation direction: 90° clockwise, counter-clockwise, or 180°.

4

Download

Save the PDF with the rotation permanently applied.

About this format

A PDF page displays sideways or upside down because the rotation metadata does not match the content orientation. This happens most often with scanned documents — scanners encode rotation in the image itself, and some PDF export pipelines misread it, producing a file that appears rotated in every reader.

PDF rotation is a metadata operation, not a re-render. The underlying page content is not redrawn or recompressed. The rotation value (0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees) stored in the PDF is updated, and readers display the page accordingly. This means rotation is fast, lossless, and reversible.

This tool rotates one page, a selection of pages, or all pages. Rotating all pages in one direction is the most common operation (fixing a scanned document where every page is sideways). Rotating individual pages handles mixed-orientation documents where some pages are portrait and some are landscape.

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating a PDF degrade its quality?+
No. PDF rotation is a metadata update — it changes a number in the PDF file that tells readers how to display the page. The actual page content (text, images, graphics) is not touched, re-encoded, or recompressed. Quality is identical before and after rotation.
Why do my PDFs keep appearing sideways after I rotate them?+
Some PDF viewers override the saved rotation with their own 'rotate view' setting from a previous session. Try opening the rotated PDF in a different viewer. If the problem persists in all viewers, re-rotate the file using this tool and verify the thumbnail orientation before downloading.
Can I rotate a single page in a multi-page PDF?+
Yes. Click the specific page thumbnail and apply rotation to that page only. Other pages remain at their original orientation. This is useful for mixed-orientation documents with some portrait and some landscape pages.
Does rotating preserve form fields and hyperlinks?+
Yes. Form fields and hyperlinks are part of the page content, which is not modified during rotation. Interactive elements are preserved and remain functional at the new orientation.
Are my files uploaded when I rotate them?+
No. Rotation runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never sent to any server. The entire operation — reading, updating the rotation value, and creating the output — happens on your device.
