February 29 birthdays: If you were born on February 29, the calculator treats your non-leap-year birthdays as March 1. Some legal and regulatory frameworks use February 28 instead — check the specific requirement if this distinction matters for your use case.

Age for a past or future date: Switch to "age on a specific date" mode to calculate how old you will be on a future date, or how old you were on a past date.

Format comparison

vs calculating manually: Manual age calculation: subtract birth year from current year, then adjust by -1 if today's month/day is before your birthday month/day. This is accurate for years but gives no months, weeks, or days. A calculator gives the full precision in all units simultaneously.

vs asking someone their age: In most social contexts, the year is sufficient. This calculator is useful when precise age matters: legal age verification (must be 18 years and 0 days as of a specific date), pediatric medication dosing (age in months and weeks for young children), competitive age brackets (must be under 40 on the race date), or personal curiosity about how many days you have lived.

Switch to date-specific mode and enter a target date to see how old you were or will be on that day.

About this format

Enter your birthdate and this calculator tells you your exact age — not just years, but months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes down to the current moment. It also counts down to your next birthday and shows your age in a few unusual units: days lived, approximate heartbeats, and weeks.

The common version of this question — "I was born in 1990, so I am 35 years old" — is only accurate once per year, on your birthday. For the rest of the year you are either 34 or 35, depending on whether your birthday has passed yet this year. The exact answer requires knowing both the year and the month and day.

Age calculations also arise in non-personal contexts: determining eligibility for age-restricted activities, calculating retirement dates, verifying age for legal documents, computing the age of a business entity, calculating a child's age for school enrollment cutoff dates, or determining whether a medication is appropriate for an age group.

The calculator handles all calendar edge cases, including birthdays on February 29 (calculated as March 1 in non-leap years), and gives results in your local time zone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my exact age including months and days?+
Enter your birthdate in the calculator. Your exact age updates in real time: years are the number of completed calendar years since your birth, months are the additional complete months after the last birthday year, and days are the remaining days after the last complete month. The combination gives your precise age — for example, 35 years, 4 months, and 12 days, as of today's date.
How old am I in days?+
Your age in days is the total number of calendar days from your birthdate to today. This includes every day, including your birthday (day 0 or day 1 depending on the counting convention). For someone born on January 1, 1990, as of January 1, 2025, they have lived 12,784 days. The calculator shows this total alongside standard years-months-days format. Divide by 365.25 to approximate years from the day count.
What happens if I was born on February 29?+
February 29 only exists in leap years. The calculator observes your birthday annually on March 1 in non-leap years. Some jurisdictions use February 28 for legal age calculations in non-leap years — check the specific legal framework if you need a precise ruling. For everyday purposes, the March 1 convention is common. Your next February 29 birthday in an actual leap year is 2028.
How do I calculate a child's age in months?+
Enter the child's birthdate in the calculator. The age in months is shown in the results: years times 12 plus the additional months. A child born on March 15, 2023 is 26 months old on May 15, 2025. Age in months is the standard measurement for pediatric development milestones, vaccination schedules, and developmental stage assessments for children under 3 years old.
How old will I be on a specific future date?+
Switch to 'age on specific date' mode and enter the target date. The calculator shows your age on that future date. This is useful for checking eligibility ages — 'Will I be 65 on June 30 of next year?' — for retirement, age-restricted activities, competitive brackets, or school enrollment cutoffs that use a specific date as the eligibility reference.
