How it works

1

Upload

Add an audio file that needs dynamic range compression.

2

Configure

Set threshold, ratio, attack, release, and makeup gain to shape the compression curve.

3

Apply

Preview the compressed audio and download. All processing happens locally in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

What does audio compression do?+
Dynamic range compression reduces the volume difference between the loudest and quietest parts of audio. It makes quiet parts louder and prevents loud peaks from clipping.
What settings should I use for voice recordings?+
For podcasts or voiceovers, start with a threshold of -20 dB, ratio of 3:1, attack of 10 ms, and release of 100 ms. Adjust to taste based on how dynamic the source material is.
Will compression make my audio louder?+
Compression itself reduces peaks, which can make audio sound quieter. Use the makeup gain control to bring the overall level back up after compression for a louder, more consistent result.
Is this the same as file compression like ZIP?+
No. This is audio dynamic range compression, which affects how the sound is heard. File compression (ZIP, FLAC) reduces file size. They are completely different processes.
Is my audio uploaded to a server?+
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your audio never leaves your device.
